An Elegant, Editorial Wedding at Billing’s Estate in Ottawa
Cassie & Fabio envisioned their day at Billing’s Estate to be romantic, happy and elegant, captured in a documentary and editorial style that would give them a mix of classic and candid photos. Shooting on both digital and film, their day was exactly that.
Billing’s Estate is a historical site, with an almost 200 year old manor house. Their ceremony was held under a gorgeous tree, using draping by Sage Designs to add that romantic and elegant touch. Cassie and Fab chose a petal toss for their exit, which makes exits even more romantic.
Their wedding day was in August, during a heatwave here in Ottawa. They made getting married in a heatwave look so effortless and cool.
Cassie & Fab decided to have a half day’s coverage for their photos, which is a reminder that weddings can happen without photography. Although I’m a photographer, your wedding day isn’t about the photos – it’s about you, your marriage, the joining of two people and families and the celebration of that. It can absolutely happen without a photographer there, just as weddings have happened for hundreds of years without one. Having the memories captured is of course so special and a privilege, but if any aspect or tradition doesn’t feel aligned with you, that’s okay!
I captured a few rolls of 35mm and 120mm film, using my Canon 1V, Fujifilm GA645 and an Olympus Zoom. I love using this combination to get quick moments, and higher quality portraits.
I loved being a part of Cassie and Fab’s day, capturing all of the special moments from getting ready to cooling off with fan’s and bubbly. It was an absolute pleasure!
