A Fall Family Session in Quarry Lake Park, Canmore Alberta
In September I flew to Alberta to celebrate Miles’ 1st birthday and we had the best weather! We drove to Quarry Lake Park in Canmore, Alberta and despite being mid-September, it was 30 degrees out. Which if you’ve ever been the province, there might be snow by then!
It’s not difficult to find stunning views of the mountains in Canmore, Alberta and luckily Quarry Lake Park is 5-10 minutes from town. What a gem! Quarry Lake Park is a beautiful and easily accessible park for family, wedding party and couple’s photo’s.
After stopping in town for a late lunch, and getting souvenirs from all the cutest shops, we started shooting at 5pm and had most of the park and views to ourselves.
The way I like to capture family photo’s is by letting you play and interact with each other as normal, rarely looking at the camera. I try to let your kids get familiar with where we are, this stranger with a camera and be themselves by giving them time to explore and chat together. This will bring out their personality that we’re trying to memorialize! Be prepared to take breaks, have some snacks and let them guide the pace.
Quarry Lake Park in Canmore Alberta is about 45 minutes to an hour from Calgary and worth the drive. The lake is a beautiful green bordered by pine tree’s and the mountains around. Being a hot day for September, the lake was full of swimmers when we visited. So if you’d like photo’s with the water for bridal portraits, I’d recommend going during non-peak hours (morning and sunset).
