Sarah & Tristan’s editorial and film winter wedding at the NAC
Sarah and Tristan envisioned their winter wedding at the National Arts Centre to be editorial, fun and full of love. Using a mix of documentary and editorial styles, their special moments were captured in a laid back and authentic way.
The National Arts Centre is beautiful any time of year, but is a perfect winter wedding venue. The couple used pops of red on the stationery and bouquets, greenery, and candles, transforming the NAC into a romantic atmosphere for them and their guests. It was so warm and beautiful at night with all of the candles lit.
The film photos (using the Contax G1, Canon EOS 1V, and Fujifilm GA645) added that nostalgic and documentary touch. I used 35mm and 120mm Kodak Portra 400 and 800 throughout the day.
The couple decided to do a quick first look in the Salon, which is beautiful space to have a private moment together away from the public moving through the NAC. We captured portraits and family photos in the Rossy Pavilion, the view of downtown Ottawa and the Chateau Laurier can’t be beat!
Although their wedding was during the winter, which tends to be more quiet than the summer months, the Rideau Canal and Winterlude had the city buzzing. This makes having indoor spaces so helpful for capturing portraits and staying out of the slush. It was also so special to watch people skate on the canal as it hasn’t been open for very long in recent years. Sarah and Tristan did bring their skates to have a moment on the canal!
Sarah’s dad surprised them by making their wedding cake, and Tristan’s dad hand carved wooden figures of the bride and groom! How beautiful! It is so special when family can add these personal touches to the wedding day.
I loved getting to be a part of Sarah and Tristan’s wedding day at the NAC. They created such a beautiful and warm environment for everyone to feel connected and have fun. It was so special!
If you’re planning a winter wedding, the National Arts Centre is a wonderful option. I’m currently booking weddings for 2026 and would love to hear all about what your dreaming of. You can find more of my film work here, and get in touch below!
