An at Home Newborn Family Session

Cruz’s first week at home, a newborn family session inspired by 35mm film

I don’t often capture newborn family sessions, but baby Cruz’s arrival was a super special occasion I couldn’t miss. From capturing my friends, Alyssa and Seb, through so many seasons, including announcing their pregnancy, I can’t believe baby Cruz has already been here over a month!

I went over to capture their newborn family session on a quiet Sunday morning in their home. Letting them enjoy the newborn cuddles and practice their swaddling, we had a lovely morning watching his little movements and facial expressions and catching up.

Keeping things simple, easy and candid, we spent time in their room, then to the nursery. I typically shoot for 1.5-2 hours at sessions because it allows everyone to settle into a slow pace, soak up the moment and forget that I’m even there.

This style of newborn session is considered “lifestyle”. This means I don’t put the baby in any positions or move them myself. I also don’t bring props or accessories, and the environment is at your home or in a studio . I capture you interacting with your baby and act as a fly on the wall. We want to memorialize what you experienced at this season of life as honestly as possible.

These photo’s and this morning already holds such sweet memories. The light, tones, little finger sand tones, it’s all so beautiful. I love getting to document your lives and freeze these special moments in time.

Welcome to the world Cruz! Congrats to your amazing parents!!

Are you new parents, raising babies, or preparing to welcome a little one? Let’s document this special season of your lives! My books are open for 2024 and I’d love to hear all about what you’re planning. I shoot using digital and 35mm analog film.
